Do you want your website to be found on the first page of Google in your local area? In this article we will be teaching you how to rank your website on Google in local search results.

Businesses that have operations on a more regional level need to focus more on local SEO because that way, they will gain higher visibility in specific localities. Local leads help businesses intending to follow this approach by marketing your business and its services/products for you to attract relevant customers.

Optimization for local SEO ensures an increase in site traffic and leads. Leads will hopefully result in conversions, but that highly depends on what content you offer. Strategize in a manner in which you set yourself apart from your larger, well-established competitors.

Given that smaller businesses do not have the resources which a larger brand would, the strategy is key. Narrow your focus down to local SEOs and optimize in a way where you can rely on your very competition for brand recognition. Optimize using broader, well-recognized keywords, for instance.

Have a My Business account on Google & optimize it

Create your account on Google My Business . What it does is that it marks your presence without a cost on this search engine and it also ensures your establishment shows up on Google Maps. There is a chance Google ends up authenticating your business and that will make it fully legitimate.   Optimize this by verifying the listing and giving accurate information (and updating that information frequently.) Have your logo shown with other details like operating timings, product/service information, etc. Allow for online reviews and give timely responses to feedback or queries.   Glowing reviews are a huge plus point because other potential local customers use this as a point of reference. It will bring you more traffic. Recommendations as such have more power at times when traditional advertising fails.   Encourage customers to review their purchase experience. Once a conversion is made, be sure to ask for feedback. Follow-up with a post-purchase message in any form with your thanks and asking for a review. If you willfully target your loyal and satisfied customers, you will get favorable words of encouragement and appreciation that will be good for business.

Voice search optimization

This has gained a lot of popularity over the years. In local SEO especially, based on how people ask their devices questions could be a way you could use as a reference to optimize voice as opposed to focusing only on typed searches.   Make sure your voice optimization and adjustments cater to the conversational tone that a person usually uses while speaking into a device. People use this technology while searching for something specific, so, make relevant business-related answers easily available for people.

Local content and stories

Local issues are very relevant to people living in that locality. As a brand, you want to position yourselves as an establishment that is updated on all the happenings and as one that engages with these events as well.   This makes you more appealing and people want to be a part of the larger community. You could have content that covers breaking news, interesting stories, or even upcoming events. Have videos, interviews, blogs , and live feeds.

Optimized for mobility

Most people prefer using their mobiles more than anything another device. Web visits via mobile have increased considerably and search engines like Google rank you based on this factor too. It’s a very marketable avenue and people, display different behavior on mobile.   Local search mostly happens on mobile so your website has to be optimized for it. This ensures good user experience and also quicker methods to reach conversions. Optimization for mobile means making sure your site loads quickly on mobile, content is legible and important info is easily found.

Focus on local keywords

Have keywords that make sense to local customers. Filter the keywords being used in your locality and pick out the ones that suit you and your region the better. These will have to appear on your site’s content and URL.    Understand which is the landmarks or popular spots in your locality and mention them in your content. It will help your site pop up in general searches.

Brand location and details

Have a specific page for location. Especially if you have branches in more than one location. It needs to feed viewers detailed info about everything, from store hours to parking availability. Each location needs a separate location page. Most brands have an ‘about us’ page where all the above are covered. You must have one too, with all relevant information that is important to the people of that location.

Backlinks are important

Having quality backlinks increases people’s and search engines' trust you. It is a good look to have for the business in general, you will be able to build better brand relationships as well. These links will help point out to you and give you that light to be visible to customers.   Quality content brings quality backlinks, the equation is pretty simple. Backlinks will come automatically because everyone likes to link to great content. Affiliate yourself with websites that have high domain authority.

Getting on Google’s good books

Prominence, proximity, and relevance are what matters when it comes to appearing on local results. When all of this is combined, you appear on user searches. Google’s algorithm decides this relevance based on the information you have provided.   You need to do all you can as a business to rank high in the local results and make sure you have ticked off all the boxes so Google can consider you worthy of the same. First and foremost, is your business relevant for the user of that locality? That’s what’s most important. So, you must add detailed information about your business so Google can understand it better.   If a location is used in the search, it is important to see how far or close your business is to that search. Google does the math for users who don’t provide specific locations by using the data it has on their current location.    Make sure you have added pictures to your listing about your ambiance, product, or services. These show customers that your business is what they are looking for.
