How To Reset The X (Twitter) Algorithm Using Ads (The $5 Method)
Key Takeaways:
- Get pennies-per-click with follow campaigns that keep users on-platform
- Use consistent branding across all platforms to build recognition and trust
- Focus on relationship-building first, then retarget website visitors with Google Performance Max
- Build top-of-funnel awareness with low-cost ads before driving expensive conversions
- Leverage organic content and follow-up sequences to close deals, not initial ads
The $5/Day Strategy That Actually Works
I've been doing this marketing stuff for the last 10 years and worked with over 2,500 brands. Through all that experience, I've discovered something that might surprise you: this ad strategy works so well, I only have to spend $5 a day on ads across X, Meta, and YouTube to generate the most leads.
- The Quick Answer: Instead of trying to get people to leave the platform (which costs dollars per click), focus on keeping them on-platform with follow campaigns that cost pennies per click. Build relationships first, then use retargeting to close deals.
- Time to See Results: Immediate penny-per-click costs for engagement, relationship building over time
- Best For: Business owners who want maximum ROI from minimal ad spend
Why Your X (Twitter) Organic Reach Is Down
Engagement is down. No one is liking my post. I post something super helpful and I get zero comments. What is going on with the algorithm?
In this post I am going to show you how I just got a new lead and client all from boosting my ad from an old organic post. That is how you are going to actually re trigger the algorithm to show your post to your followers.
If you want the full prompt I am going to be showing you today so you can simply just copy and paste it for yourself you can find it at automationlinks.com.
The 5 Dollar Algorithm Reset Strategy
Here is a post I spent a lot of time on. It is a full prompt on how to do copywriting so you actually get results.
But funny enough I used the copywriting tool and I only got about eight comments on this and really no leads from it.
Usually this would see really good traction. If I go back you are going to see on my profile I made a post that had 180,000 views and over 1,500 comments. So you would think other posts that got me all these followers and all these people interested would see good results like that.
But the algorithm changed. They are changing algorithms on all channels. This does not only work for X. It also works on LinkedIn, on Facebook and Instagram and other social channels because when they change the algorithm your post might not get very good reach.
But there is a trick and that is what I am going to show you today.
I just spent $7.38 to start re engaging my followers with this post because when I posted this they did not see it. I recommend just running it at $5 a day to boost the algorithm. So now they start seeing your other post again.
Mandatory Profile Safety Checks
If you do not have your profile page set up it is not going to get approved.
- You need to go to your profile and set up a banner and your profile image.
- Make sure you have a good description.
- Make sure you have a solid link. I send them to my YouTube channel and I also send them to my website.
- You are also going to need to make sure you put terms and conditions and privacy policies at the bottom of these pages.
Once you have that set up you are going to need to make sure you post some organic posts in here so it looks like you are a legitimate person. You do not want to just create an account and not post anything. They are going to ban you and shut you down.
Setting Up Your Ad Account
Once that is all set up you are going to click on more and you are going to click on ads and you are going to create an ad account. It is going to make you go through all these steps like adding a card on file.
Now you can go ahead and go to tools and set up all of your audiences and your pixels. Like I mentioned you can do this on other platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook to boost that algorithm to make sure your followers see it. If they do engage they will start seeing your organic post after.
Why Reach Campaigns Beat Sales Campaigns
Now that your account is set up and approved you can go ahead and click create campaign.
If you log on to X and create your X account you are going to probably be on their new platform. The new version of X ads is going to force you to try to do sales. We are not doing this for sales. Sales is going to cost you a lot of money. It is going to take a lot of time and you are going to have to spend a ton of money testing different creatives.
What we want to do is reach.
You are going to want to go switch it to the old platform. Under creatives tools ads editor you can go ahead and change that. It will allow you to change it back so it looks just like this. From there go ahead and create campaign and you are going to want to choose reach. The goal here is to really build up your organic so people do not forget about you.
Targeting Your Existing Followers
This is how you set up your campaign under the reach.
- Keep it max reach because we want to show it to as many people as possible.
- Let X auto bid for you.
- Pay by impression because we want people to see this post over and over.
- Be a little specific on who you want to target and where your ideal customers are.
The main thing we need to do is retarget people who saw or engaged with your post and or your ads.
- Select all engagements so anyone that is engaged in the past organic or ads.
- You also want to target the followers. These are the people that are not on premium plus.
Selecting The Perfect Organic Post
You are going to see use existing ad. You are going to change this to organic post and you are going to see all of your organic posts here.
Any post that has emoji or hashtags will not be approved for an ad. So when you are posting your organic post X recommends not to do emojis or any hashtags or it will not get approved as an ad. Something that is a little bit shorter in the call to action will work really well for an ad.
Analyzing The Data
Once it gets approved it will start spending that budget for you. You can see reach, your impressions, and how much you spent. You will actually be able to see the cost per result.
I am spending about $1.30 per thousand impressions. Since I have such a small audience it is going to cost me a little bit more. If I show this ad to everyone it is going to cost me much less but they are not my ideal customers.
I like to go and see if I get any new followers from it. You can see that I have actually gotten two new followers from this and it cost me about $4.51. The more I improve this and grow this the more the cost will go down.
We can go ahead and cycle right through here. You can see I got two replies, nine profile visits, and we actually just got a lead from one of these. So for just $9 I got a new lead from a post retargeting people from X ads.
How To Scale This Strategy
If you want this exact thing I have got this prompt at automationlinks.com.
You can go ahead and grab this. It helps you go ahead and write these posts and shows you exactly what to post to trigger the algorithm to get your followers and get new followers from your post.
All you have to do is copy it and go throw it in something like ChatGPT (full list of prompts here) or you can use our software here where we have a full list of all the different ads that we see working best to get you the best results. Once you have that you are just going to copy it and head over to your personalized chatbot we call him Al.
You can see he wrote me my social media post today and it is already getting more likes and comments because it is exactly what the algorithm wants to see.
How much should I spend per platform daily?
I recommend starting with $5 total across all platforms - roughly $1.50-2 per platform. Focus on engagement objectives to get penny-per-click costs.
What if my follow campaigns aren't getting engagement?
Make sure you're using platform-native objectives (follows, comments, engagement) rather than traffic or conversion objectives. The platforms reward keeping users on-site.
How long before I see website visits from this strategy?
You'll see engagement immediately at penny costs. Website visits typically increase over 2-4 weeks as relationships build and people naturally click bio links.
Should I use the same creative across all platforms?
Yes, but optimize for each platform's format. Keep the same blue background, white shirt branding I use, but adjust dimensions and copy for each platform's best practices.
How do I track if this is working better than conversion ads?
Compare your cost-per-click on engagement vs. conversion objectives. You should see 10-20x lower costs on engagement campaigns, with organic conversions increasing over time.
What type of educational content works best for follow-up ads?
Focus on your core expertise - for me, it's follow-up systems and relationship marketing. Share tips, insights, and helpful content related to your specialty without trying to sell.
How many retargeting ads should I run on Google?
Start with 2-3 ad variations across Performance Max. Let Google's algorithm optimize placement across Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, and Discover networks.
Can this work for B2B companies?
Absolutely. The relationship-building approach often works better for B2B since decision cycles are longer and trust is more important than impulse purchases.
What's the biggest mistake people make with this strategy?
Trying to rush the relationship-building phase. Focus on providing value and building recognition before expecting conversions. Patience leads to better long-term results.
How do I know when someone is ready to move from social media to my website?
Look for increased engagement, comments on posts, and direct messages. These signals indicate growing interest and readiness to learn more about your services.
